Take Your TV With You: 4 Ways to Access Your Favorite Streaming Platforms

Streaming services are a very popular form of entertainment, as they allow its subscribers to access TV shows, movies, and sometimes even live TV, music, and games, at their leisure. What makes them even more convenient is that you can access them from anywhere on almost any type of electronic device. Here’s an example of four different types of devices where you can watch any streaming service that you have a subscription to.

#1: Smart TV

The most obvious way to access streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu is by purchasing a smart TV. Most smart TVs have all of the most popular (and some lesser known) movie and TV streaming platforms readily available on the TV, and all you need is a subscription to whichever platform you choose to watch. In fact, many people are choosing to get rid of their cable or satellite services (also known as cord-cutting) in favor of purchasing a smart TV and subscribing to their favorite streaming services to watch TV and movies.

However, you can’t always take your smart TV with you wherever you go— although you could unplug it and take it with you on a trip and plug it in when you reach your destination— but that’s too much of a hassle, especially when there are more feasible options. Plus, most hotels and other lodging options have smart TVs so you can still watch your favorite shows. Fortunately, there are many other ways to access these streaming services.

#2: Desktop Computer or Laptop

Although desktop computers are just as stationary as TVs, you can access a streaming service’s website on a computer near you, logging into your account. However, more and more people are now using laptops instead of desktops, and you can carry your laptop with you wherever you go and where there’s an internet connection. The way you’d login into your Netflix, Hulu, etc. account on a desktop computer is exactly the same on a laptop.

Many people carry their laptops with them on long airplane rides to watch their favorite streaming platforms during the flight. Just keep in mind that your laptop will need to be fully charged in order to be able to watch a streaming service, as not all planes have an in-seat power outlet. Fortunately, there are portable chargers (such as a USB battery) that will allow you to charge your electronic devices on the go.

#3: Smartphones and Tablets

Smartphones and tablets are a little more sophisticated than a laptop. Instead of using a browser to access your favorite streaming platforms, you can download the actual application from your phone or tablet’s app store. Apps tend to run a little bit smoother than a web browser when watching an entire TV show or movie, and since most people carry their phones with them everywhere, it’s the perfect device to watch TV on whenever you’re waiting or traveling for a long period of time.

The only downside is that the screen isn’t as large as an actual television, or even a laptop screen, but smartphones and tablets are much more compact than a laptop. However, it is possible to “cast” your show to a smart TV on some streaming platforms, such as Disney Plus. So if you’re traveling to a place where a smart TV will be available, you still may be able to watch your favorite TV shows and movies on an actual TV screen.

#4: Amazon Fire Stick

The Amazon Fire Stick is an external device that can be plugged into a TV. The good thing about the Fire Stick is that it can be used in both a smart TV and a regular TV, as long as there’s an HDMI port that it can be plugged into. So if you have a Fire Stick, you can carry it wherever you travel to as long as there’s a TV with an HDMI port, such as if you were staying at a friend’s house or in a hotel room/Airbnb/etc. Plus, if you have special add-ons installed on your Fire Stick, they’ll still be available when you use it on another TV.

Because the Fire Stick works with an HDMI port, you can also use it to watch your favorite movies and TV shows on your laptop. However, this isn’t really necessary because (as mentioned earlier) you can access each streaming service’s website in your web browser, and log into your account that way.

So these are the ways that you can watch TV shows and movies on your favorite streaming platforms. Many people have a smart TV, laptop, and smartphone, allowing them to access their favorite platforms whether they’re at home or on the go. Keep in mind that even though you have access to multiple streaming services, you still need a paid subscription to enjoy your favorite shows.
